For the longest time possible, my mother has always been insisting that we eat steamed food only for obvious reasons- but we will hear none of it.

Well, recently in  one of my reading sessions I came across a piece of article that explained as to why fried foods have become dangerous to our healths-and instead people should embrace steaming food for better results in health.

Steam cooking is one of the most ancient ways of cooking. Even before finding out what fire was, our ancestors were able to warm and soften fish, fruits and other products using natural stones warmed up on a hot spring.

The Chinese have been using steam cooking for centuries, a system that has changed little despite the many discoveries and innovations that science has brought our way.

Steamed food is the latest craze amongst those who are always on the run and are conscious about their health. From taste and nutritional value to ease of cooking, the benefits of steamed food are spread across a wide range of parameters.

Foods that are steamed have their taste intact and can be enjoyed at their best.

Their flavour is not hampered by frying or grilling. Moreover, some foods taste best when steamed. Carrots and mustard greens have a rich, distinct flavour which gets ruined by other methods of cooking.

Steamed vegetables like kale and spinach taste great too when steamed, thus, keeping the original flavour intact.
Apart from the little time that steamed foods demand. They are also very healthy to eat, especially for the heart.

The low fat content of foods cooked this way can go a long way to prevent problems associated with the heart diseases.

Steamed foods also help the now famous killer disease cancer at bay because of the nutrients that are kept intact during the process of steaming.

Cancer is killing people at an alarming rate, and reducing oil intake in our diets can help a great deal in fighting cancerous cells in our bodies.

Steamed foods also help in the growing of hair, softening the skin and nails are likely to improve in the process as a result of the higher level of vitamins.

It has also been proven that the immune system of a person who favours steamed food becomes stronger and the overall energy will increase.

It is also advised that people who are over 40 years of age, to at least take two meals a day made out of steaming, because it can also help prevent high cholesterol and even ulcers.

With the junk food everywhere, we should encourage our children to eat steamed foods as well even though they may complain that it is not tasty.

We should start keeping their weight and health in check at the earliest for their own good.

Trying out to steam my foods two weekends ago, I found that it took me less time to prepare the foods than when am frying-making it possible for me to do other chores-as I was waiting for the food to be ready.

This means that steaming food is not only one of the safest ways to help us live a healthy lifestyle but also the quickest.
