Legislators in the Lower Chamber of Parliament, yesterday met with their staff  in an extraordinary session, coming up with strategies on better service delivery.

The Speaker, Rose Mukantabana, emphasised that though the duties of the lawmakers and their staff are different, they complement each other.

The chamber of deputies comprises 60 MPs with 87 support staff who include researchers.

"If anyone did not do their given duties, all the others will be affected,” Mukantabana said.

"MPs goals cannot be achieved without the staff and vice versa.”During the session, the Speaker also emphasised the need to set targets for the remaining two years of the House’s mandate.

She asked the lawmakers to draw performance contracts (Imihigo) similar to those of civil servants.

MPs Christine Mukarubuga, Anne Marie Musabyemungu, Marie Rose Mureshyankwano, and Charles Kamanda, acknowledged the role the support staff play and their dedication.

The staff members on their part requested for improved working conditions, including cutting down on long working hours.
