I read with disappointment the story in The New Times yesterday that the government’s efforts to have genocide fugitives extradited are frustrated by some human rights organisations.

Whereas some countries in Europe are in the process of extraditing these fugitives, rights groups are busy providing misinformation on Rwanda.

Rights groups were initiated to promote the rule of law. It is a big irony today because these groups side with fugitives. Shielding genocide suspects will only promote a culture of impunity.
