Bajyana, 64, is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Science at the National University of Rwanda (NUR).
According to the results released by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) yesterday evening, Bajyana got 329 votes with the runner up, Etienne Ntagwirumugara, garnering 208.
Ntagwirumugara is a lecturer at Kigali Institute of Science and Technology.
Prof. Laurent Nkusi is the Vice Rector in charge of academics at the Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Education of Kibungo (INATEK).
When The New Times visited one polling station at the Adventist University of Central African (AUCA), by midday, 75 percent of the voters had completed casting their votes.
After announcing the winners, Prof. Chrysologue Karangwa, the NEC chairman, said that the election process was commendable.
"I thank the management of all universities and other institutions of higher learning across the country for working with our office in enabling the voters to turn up at the polling stations on time,” Prof. Karangwa said.
On Monday, senate elections for representatives for Kigali City and the four provinces were held, with provisional results already disclosing the winners.
Karangwa said that the final results of the Senate elections will, officially, be released during a news conference, scheduled for today at 4 p.m. at the Commission’s headquarters.
