KAYONZA-Diary Quality Assurance Laboratory, in collaboration with Gahini Diocese, yesterday, launched the Rwanda quality milk initiative project.

The project, financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was launched at Seeds of Peace in Kayonza District.

According to the project coordinator, Manasseh Twahirwa, the project seeks to improve milk quality, collection, storage as well as provide milk transportation safety.

"We shall ensure increased milk production as well as income for farmers,” Twahirwa said.

David Mupenzi, the general manager of Diary Quality Assurance Laboratory, said that the project will help promote hygiene at milk centres.

"Most of the milk collection centres are exposed to bacteria. This is what we shall fight to enable farmers produce quality milk,” he said.

The Mayor of Kayonza District, John Mugabo, thanked the project founders and urged farmers to take advantage.

Shukul, Bizimungu from Rwanda Bureau of standards, pledged technical support in ensuring quality milk.

"High production without quality is meaningless,” he said.
