MUSANZE - A 24-member delegation from Uganda’s Kisoro District Council, yesterday, toured Musanze District to learn from various developmental projects, including agricultural and animal husbandry initiatives that have helped to improve people’s welfare.

The delegation, which included heads of different units and councillors was led by the Mayor of Kisoro District, Sam Byibeshyo.

They toured Musanze town, and visited the association of agriculturalists-Urugaga Imbaraga, the agro-produce market, cows and piggery farms.

"We are inspired by the cleanness of this town, the management of the sewage system, and the flowers in town. Kisoro has a big problem of Buveera (polythene bags), we hope to adopt most of the projects we have seen here,’’ Byibeshyo said.

The councillors held talks with Musanze District Advisory Council members, after a presentation on the performance contracts for Musanze district.

The district councillors recommended continuous cross border meetings as a way of curbing crime, especially smuggling of illegal alcohol, Kanyanga, which is brewed from Kisoro.

"We appreciate the developments we have seen here.  Rwanda is indeed exemplary in terms of cleanness in East Africa, we want to uplift the standards of the communities we represent,’’ Byibeshyo said.

Musanze Mayor, Winifrida Mpembyemungu, noted that the neighbouring districts should strengthen the partnership, share development ideas, and collaborate in settling cross border crime.

"We hope to continue with this partnership, to learn from one another,’’ Mpembyemungu pointed said.
