KIGALI - If elected, Consolata Mukabera will use her position as Senator to advocate for good service delivery that trickles down to the poorest citizen in the country.
She said this during an interview with The Sunday Times, yesterday, after rigorous campaigns across the country.
A councillor in Kigali City, Mukabera who holds a Masters degree in Business Administration, is one of the 14 candidates vying for senatorial positions where the winners will be announced on September 26.
"Leaders are supposed to be servants; I am campaigning for the senatorial seat because I enjoy serving my fellow citizens, to make Rwanda a very prosperous country,” she said.
"If elected, I will promote all the important government projects, especially those meant to empower poor people, and make sure that they are effectively implemented and not just end in paperwork”.
"Agriculture being the number one employer of Rwandans must be given priority and that is why it also tops my agenda,” Mukabera added.
Her agenda is also heavily focused on family promotion, women empowerment and ICT promotion.
"Rwanda is moving forward in almost all aspects because the leadership is focused on fighting against corruption, community participation and bringing leaders closer to the citizens through decentralization programs,” she said.
"We therefore need to keep this spirit up by electing people who are capable of rebuilding our nation”.
Of the 26 representatives in the Senate, 14 will be elected countrywide, eight will be nominated by the President and four will be forwarded by the Consultative Forum for Political Organization.
Two will come from private and public institutions of higher learning.
