Kavumu Sector in Ngororero District was the best overall taking a Gold trophy and Rwf 1.5 million in a addition to a certificate of recognition.
The award ceremony that coincided with the monthly communal work –Umuganda- was presided over by the Minister of Education, Pierre Damien Habumuremyi, the Governor of the Western Province, Celestin Kabahizi and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Cyrille Turatsinze.
The ceremony was organized in all districts, and all the best performing sectors were awarded in their respective areas.
It’s said that the people of Kavumu sector have been innovative, and built an electricity plant without any external assistance, and today, the community is using electricity power that is generated locally.
Speaking at the event, the education minister commended the population’s efforts in solving their own problems adding that this does not only help the district, but the entire country as well.
The electricity plant cost over Rwf 24 million, and all the money came from contributions by members of the local community.
The minister pledged the government’s support in completing the remaining work, adding that government’s mission is to ensure the development of all districts in the country.
The second best performer was Nyamagabe District’s Musange Sector, where the population cultivated 6 hectares of pineapples following the land consolidation policy.
Manyagiro Sector in Gicumbi District emerged third best performer after the local population built 36 modern houses for historically marginalized people in line with community development and social protection programs.
