Musanze-There is need for Rwandans to be innovative in order to keep pace with the development trends, the Minister in Charge of Cabinet Affairs, Protais Musoni, told local leaders on Thursday.

He was presiding over the closure of inter-district competitions on good governance in the Northern Province.

The competitions, which began last months, aimed at promoting innovativeness in the spirit of performance contracts. They featured football and showcasing of new profitable ventures.

"Local leaders should promote the spirit of competition. We can learn from what others have done and translate it to other areas, innovations from various corners will accelerate the development we want,” Musoni said.

The function was attended by all district mayors, the Minister in the President’s office in charge of ICT, Dr. Ignace Gatare, the Director of Cabinet in the Prime Minister’s Office, Eugene Barikana and several members of parliament hailing from the Province. 

Burera District emerged the best overall.

Cecil Nyirabahutu, from Nyange Sector in Musanze, was awarded a trophy and Rwf 170,000 for her innovative idea of turning garbage into charcoal bricks.

During the function, 1,135 motorcyclists were also given reflector jackets inscribed with messages of ‘tolerance, unity, as a strong pillar for national development.’

The provincial Governor, Aime Bosenibamwe, said that the competitions will enhance timely implementation of government policies, promote innovation and bring Rwandans together in the spirit of sharing and unity.
