Kayonza-The Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Aloisea Inyumba, yesterday launched construction works on a Women’s Opportunity Centre in Kayonza District.
The centre that will cost over Rwf 450 million upon completion, is built with the support of an international NGO, Women for Women.
Addressing hundreds of residents who had turned up for the ground breaking ceremony, Inyumba said that the centre would be instrumental in transforming the lives of rural women.
She advised rural women to fully engage in the production process through various projects.
"There is never time to waste...be ready to maximise the new centre that will be availed to you soon. The centre will offer you necessary infrastructure to carry out projects of your choice,” she said.
Inyumba commended Women for Women, for their support to needy women in the country.
"Don’t take for-granted the support, but remain vigilant and create jobs for the benefit of the entire community,” she urged.
The Mayor of Kayonza, John Mugabo, said that the facility would employ a number of women and youth in the district.
"The centre will partly solve the unemployment issue...youth and women will find jobs at the complex centre in future,” he said.
An official from Women for Women Rwanda, Angelique Mukankubana, told The New Times that she had made some progress after getting employed at the centre.
"I earn at least Rwf 20,000 per month working at this project...this adds to my other income from the cow’s milk and bananas I sell from my small farm,” she said.
