The Society Magazine approached some of Rwanda’s famous local artists, to hear their views on peace.

ALINE GAHONGAIRE, one of the most popular gospel artists in the country says that peace is life, and that it is closely related to the basic values of Christianity.

"Without peace, there definitely is no life. People should also note that the best peace is in Jesus Christ; because when one walks according to the norms of Christianity, then peace is achieved.”

"Celebrating World Peace Day should serve as a challenge to anyone planning to disturb the peace we live in now, and possibly change their minds, and come aboard to build it further.”

SGT ROBERT, who opened up this year’s peace concert performing alongside the Army Jazz Band, notes that the day should be historical for the Rwandan society, owing to its genocide history.

"As an artiste, I believe that this day should be esteemed more because as Rwanda, we have a connected history to tell about peace. We should celebrate because we are no longer wailing, but developing.”

KIZITO MIHIGO, who also performed at the event, underscored that public goals like development and good living cannot be achieved by a state without peace.
"You cannot have development, good living, prosperity…when you have no peace at home. Peace facilitates our chase for all those good values.”

"My song ‘Inuma’ carried the meaning of peace descending on the society.”

JAY POLLY, who is considered to be one of the most successful rappers in Rwanda, urges fellow artistes to preach good values, like peace. 

"Peace is the reason we sing, as Tuff Gang (his music group), and it is what we advocate for in our music.

Any rapper or artiste should not only seek self-promotion or money, but built his society in any possible way by singing with a good message.”
