After working as an assistant to two foreign coaches in Tucak Branko and Tetteh, the former APR and Amavubi midfielder, believes it’s time to consider nationals for the hot seat.
Although Nshimiyimana did not out-rightly commit himself to the vacancy during yesterday’s interview with Times Sport, his statement that ‘the local football body (Ferwafa) should consider local coaches for the job’ is the clearest hint to the position.
In a brief spell as stand-in head coach, Nshimiyimana did fairly well by guiding a youthful Amavubi side to the final of the 2009 Cecafa Challenge Cup in Nairobi, Kenya.
Rwanda lost 2-0 to the Uganda Cranes.
The Amavubi job fell vacant early this month following Tetteh’s resignation. The Ghanaian threw in the towel after Rwanda’s humiliating 5-0 defeat against Ivory Coast. The defeat ended Rwanda’s faint hopes of sneaking through to next year’s Africa Nations Cup which will be jointly hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
Ferwafa have already asked Nshimiyimana to take charge of the team for Group H’s final qualifier against Benin.
The qualifier is scheduled for October 9 in Porto Novo.
