JEAN Baptist Mugiraneza a.k.a Migi has challenged his teammates to prove they are good enough to turn around their recent slump when they face Benin early next month.
The wasps wrap up their dismal 2012 Africa Nations Cup campaign with an away return leg in Porto Novo on October 9.
After seeing Rwanda’s faint qualification hopes crushed by a ruthless Ivory Coast side early this month, the midfielder has demanded a quick response from his teammates.
"We have to keep going," Migi said. "This match (Benin) is massive for us. We don't want excuses because we are playing for Rwanda and a lot of players would like to be in our position so we have to justify our positions in the team."
Migi, who was suspended for the Ivory Coast game, watched helplessly from the stands as the Elephants thrashed a disorganized Amavubi side.
On the day, Chelsea midfielder Solomon Kalou opened the floodgates with an easy tap-in on the 34th minute. Vitesse Arnhem’s striker Bony Wilfred then added a quick brace on the 40th and 42nd minute.
Second half substitute Yakonan Didier scored the fourth on the 64th minute before a fantastic goal from Arsenal’s Gervinho rounded off things.
Amavubi players are now expected to regroup this Sunday at La Palisse Nyandungu.
Following Sellas Tetteh’s resignation early this month, interim coach Eric Nshimiyimana is expected to name a provisional 25-man squad by Friday.
After five matches, Rwanda are at the bottom of Group H with three points.
