Rwamagana-Senate candidates in the Eastern Province yesterday made last-ditch efforts to woo voters as the election date nears.

The candidates campaigned along with their volunteers and supporters ahead of the September 26 election showdown.

A number of candidates, who talked to The New Times, said that the competition is stiff as many experienced personalities are in the race.

"This is not easy,” one of the candidates, Emmanuel Munyandinda,  said. "It's going to require energy to tussle it out, but people know that I'm a fighter ...that's one thing they know.”

"I have got the momentum, I truly want to continue with the team to make history for our country,” he added.

Jean Bosco Mutezintare said that his experience motivated him to join the race.

"It’s probably been the most exciting, energetic campaign that I've ever been involved in my life,” Mutezinare said.

"And I've been involved in many campaign efforts over the years, but this has been nothing short of unusual”.

One of the only two women among the 12 candidates, Fausta Uwingabire,, said that stiff competition was healthy.

"We've run, I believe, a great campaign,” she said. "I've got great staff, we've followed all the fundamentals, and I believe we're going to peak up and win this race.”

Claudine Umutoniwabo, a voter said that most of the manifestos presented by athe aspirants considered the country’s general development trend.

"It is a question of reading between the lines of what candidates say and make a wise choice,” she said.

As the campaigns reach the final stretch, each of the candidates is expected to solicit for votes in the districts.
