Jean Bosco Sebishyimbo, whose house collapsed appealed to the government for support to rebuild his house and buy other household property swept away by floods.
"Part of what remained of my house developed a big crack and I fear to enter. I will look for someone to shelter me and my family,” narrated Sebishyimbo.
Many residents have abandoned their shuttered homes fearing for the worst.
Celestine Kabayizi, the Governor of Western Province, Sheikh Hassan Bahame ,the mayor of Rubavu District and Brig. Gen Wilson Gumisiriza, RDF commander in the Western Province visited the devastated area.
"It’s been three years since we experienced this kind of disaster and we are only lucky that it rained during the day. Otherwise lives would have been lost as well,” said Esidore Mpozembizi, another victim.
The Ministry of Disaster preparedness called on local leaders to organise communal work to unclog the channels to avoid future calamities.
