A group of Rwandan musicians, led by veteran singer Jean Paul Samputu, on Sunday, performed at Lemigo Hotel to remember the victims of the disastrous events in Japan nearly seven months ago. The event, celebrated under the theme: ‘Rwanda-Japan Turikumwe’, attracted various people including Japanese living in Rwanda and government officials.
A group of Rwandan musicians, led by veteran singer Jean Paul Samputu, on Sunday, performed at Lemigo Hotel to remember the victims of the disastrous events in Japan nearly seven months ago.
The event, celebrated under the theme: ‘Rwanda-Japan Turikumwe’, attracted various people including Japanese living in Rwanda and government officials.
The artistes including former Tusker Project Fame Season 4 contestant Gaga, Sonia, Patrick Nyamitari, Aline Gahongaire and Hiroki Kaihatsu, Japanese volunteer in Rwanda, jointly performed a song titled ‘Turikumwe.’
Speaking to The New Times, Samputu urged Rwandans to be supportive of the Tsunami survivors.
"I decided to play my part as an artiste and write the song after my visit to Fukushima. I call upon all Rwandans to consider ways of helping out the survivors because some still live in temporary shelters and still lack food,” Samputu urged.
Other activities included a fundraiser to support the survivors.
