Rwandan pair of Egide Kayigire and Celine Iranzi failed to make a positive impact on their appearance in this year’s Commonwealth Youth Games, currently going on in the Isles of Man.
Kayigire finished sixth in the men’s 3000m finals clocking 8: 42: 41 while Iranzi secured seventh position in the women category clocking 10: 05: 02.
Neighbours Kenya and Uganda dominated the both race categories. In the male category, Kenyan pair of William Malel Sitonik and Patrick Mutunga won gold and silver clocking 7:57:03 and 8:00:81 while Philip Kipyeko secured bronze for Uganda in a time of 8:02:33.
In the female category, Emelia Gorecka won gold for England with Nancy Cheptegei booking a silver medal for Uganda and Kenya’s Norah Jeruto Tanui secured a bronze medal for Kenya.
The pair follows Faustin Mpano in the exit chamber after failing to qualify for the semi finals in the 800m. Mpano clocked 2:03.29 to finish behind Kenya’s Timothy Kitum, Matthew Swanson from Canada and Robert Needham from England.
The results mean that Rwandan athletes end their campaign in the Isles of Man empty-handed and will return home and start afresh.
