RWAMAGANA-The doors to one of the few storied buildings in Rwamagana town were indefinitely closed after the building was declared unfit for business.

According to the Mayor, Neheme Uwimana, the owners of the two-storied house had deliberately refused to heed to advice by authorities to re-furbish it.

"The building we closed was potentially hazardous...a building of such size without toilets. It is not in order to start renting an incomplete house,” he said, adding that authorities would continue their crack down on poorly constructed structures.

The Mayor advised the affected tenants to seek alternative premises for their businesses.

"It is inconveniencing for one to reallocate a business, but it would be worse if the structure collapsed on them”.

Theodomerie Kayingi, who oversees the building in question, however lamented that the owners were given little time to renovate.

"We were given short notice and then the doors were closed immediately.
Renovation takes some time and authorities should have allowed our business to continue as we work on the building,” he said.

The affected building was constructed 20 years ago.
