The national football governing body, Ferwafa, which runs the national league, has promised to respect the 2011/12 league calendar which gets underway on Saturday.

The pronouncement was made during the federation’s ordinary general assembly held at Chez Lando hotel on Saturday.

Ferwafa president Brig. Gen Jean Bosco Kazura said, "The calendar for the forthcoming season was approved by all parties involved in the league. We hope nothing will again delay the league because all factors [that usually cause delays] have been discussed.”

Kazura, who chaired the meeting, also urged clubs to give priority to local players in their clubs for the sake of the national team.

On the opening day, champion APR start the defence of their title against newly promoted Espoir Fc, Kiyovu take on Nyanza; Police hosts Amagaju while Mukura faces Etincelles.

On Sunday, Marines will play La Jeunesse at Mumena while Rayon Sports will be away to AS Kigali at Kigali regional stadium in Nyamirambo.

The first round will end on February 12, 2012 while the second round starts on March 3 and will climax on May 12, 2012.

The general assembly also reached a decision of improving the level of grassroots football by ensuring that a strong and competitive third division league should be put in place.

Six clubs SEC Kicukiro, Rwamagana, United Stars, Bugesera, Unity and Kirehe were drafted into the second division league while Kibuye was eliminated for failure to compete in two previous editions of the second division league.

Meanwhile, as the transfer window closed on September 8, 13 players had completed their international transfers under the use of Transfer Matching System (TMS) which makes international transfers quicker, smoother and, most importantly, more transparent.

With TMS, the two clubs involved in a transfer have to enter the same information in the system, otherwise the transfer will be blocked and the member association cannot issue the International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
