APR’s rivals have more cause to worry after the Primus league champions easily run down Police with a 3-0 defeat in the semifinals of the Primus Cup preseason tournament played yesterday at Amahoro stadium.
Police, who defeated Rayon Sports on Wednesday, were expected to give a stern test to APR but the military side scored early on through captain Olivier Karekezi before Dan Wagaluka grabbed a second from Seleman Ndikumana’s cross.
Midfielder Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza netted a third goal in the 42nd minute to seal any easy victory for the 12-times league champions, and set up a final clash with AS Kigali.
The champions’ new signings Karekezi, Pappy Fatty, Seleman Ndikumana, Dan Wagaluka and Douglas Lopes Carneiro all put on impressive shifts much to the delight of their fans.
APR will now take on AS Kigali in the final this afternoon. The Kigali City Council side defeated La Jeunesse 4-3 on penalties after normal time ended 1-1.
The winner of today’s final will walk away with Rwf 5m, while the runners-up and third place team will pocket Rwf 3m and Rwf 1m respectively.
The Primus pre-season tournament is the curtain raiser to the new league season which is scheduled to kick off next weekend.
