Zaaffran, Restaurant is one Kigali’s finest authentic Indian eatery in the outskirts of the city centre.

The restaurant is located in Kiyovu a few meters from the main road that connects the city centre to Kimironko.

The place is ever packed by the people both foreigners and Rwandan nationals who come to taste the Indian cuisine.

I popped in early last week to experience the Indian style of food. I found out that the prices are definitely pocket friendly and whatever one pays for a meal, the portions are certainly large.

When I reached there, I chose to sit outside on the raised deck sheltered by Indian style drapery. The venue also has an ample space for parking for those who come there with vehicles.

They have circular tables which seat four people in and outside the restaurant in the gardens, and during evening time, the place is packed to capacity.

I like Indian food and have been intrigued this year by the way the food is prepared at the eatery; it’s not over spiced like the way we all know the Indian cuisine is supposed to be.

The Indian food Joint offers traditional Indian food. I have not been to India many times, but my senses have been aroused by the delicious dishes comprised of a wealth of ingredients.

The menu changes regularly, so patrons are encouraged to return and sample another range of dishes from this diverse cuisine.

After having my lunch, I decided to have a one on one interview with the Proprietor of the Restaurant, Mr. Jaimin Patel who gave me an insight into the eating joint operations.

"We prepare lunch and dinner only, and our Indian traditional dishes are liked by all the nationals, both Rwandans and the foreigners,” he says.

He adds that Rwanda’s environment is safe for investment because the country is secure, clean and the business environment is good.

Patel states that, he started the restaurant business in 2009 in partnership with his brother-in-law and since then, the business has grown bigger and bigger due to the excellent business  environment in Kigali city.

"I am planning to expand my business to Gisenyi city in the Western Province of Rwanda before I spread it out to other places in the country,” he says.

He calls upon the Indians to come and invest in Rwanda since the environment in the country favours business growth.

"We get very many customers most especially during the weekends because that is when the place is booked for wedding parties, launch parties among others,” he asserts.

Patel adds: "There is enough security in the country, people are very friendly, we call upon our brothers and sisters to come and invest in Rwanda.”

The proprietor of the Indian food joint is on hand to see that everything moves on smoothly, under him there is a group of 50 employees who run the business.
