I learnt with glee that the fifth largest telecommunications firm in the world, India’s Bharti Airtel, had been awarded a licence to join the Rwandan market as a third operator.

This is a major boost to the telecommunications industry. Airtel call rates in other regional countries are generally friendly and we expect the same here.

I hope the new entrant spurs more competition in the sector, which is healthy for consumers.
