KIGALI -Senior executives from various financial institutions across Africa have condemned the perpetrators of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi, stressing that the act should never have been allowed to happen in an African society.

The bankers grouped under the umbrella, Association of African Development Finance Institution (AADFI), toured the memorial on the sidelines of a conference they were attending in Kigali on Thursday.

Cyril A. Okoye, a Training and Research officer at AADFI noted that the genocide should be a lesson not only to Africa but to the entire world, adding that it should not have happened in a brotherly society like Africa.

"It’s horrible for such massacres to have happened in an African society, this should not happen any more in Africa nor anywhere else in the entire world,” he said.

He mentioned that though Rwanda went through such an awful period, it is recognised as one of the fastest growing countries globally. He further credited the current government for reconciling its nationals.

"What is important and amazing is the way Rwandans are rebuilding themselves .I have visited several parts of Kigali and saw that Rwanda is developing at a very high speed”.

AADFI is aimed at training continental bankers in appropriate IT techniques in banking and finance as well as developing policy advice to members.

The bankers were in Kigali attending a conference on project analysis.
