KIREHE - Residents of Musaza Sector in Kirehe District were left in shock after a man chopped off his wife’s arm in a domestic row.

Jean Marie Habumuremyi, who is still on the run, allegedly hacked Valentine Byukusenge, 23, with a machete, on Wednesday.

The woman is battling for her life at Kirehe Hospital.

Claude Uwamungu, a medical officer at the hospital said that the victim remains in intensive care with several body injuries.

"The woman lost a lot of blood…she is under close monitoring. Her life may be saved, but the arm is gone,” he said.

According to, one of the neighbours, Jeanne Mujawamariya, the couple were in an acrimonious relationship.

She added that the man was enraged when the woman asked for money to pay for their son’s health insurance, commonly known as Mutuelle de Sante.

Meanwhile, Police in Rwamagana District are holding eight men in connection with the death of a young trader in the area.
 
John Mwizerwa, 21, a resident of Kigabiro Sector was attacked by unknown assailants in his shop and stabbed to death. Police are still investigating both cases.
