GICUMBI - The Minister of Health, Dr Agnes Binagwaho, has tasked Gicumbi District officials to initiate various developmental programs to uplift the welfare of its residents.

Binagwaho was speaking at a meeting that brought her together district officials to assess the district’s current standing and draw its new developmental plan.

The Minister, who acts as the district’s focal point in the central government, urged local leaders to be result-oriented in whatever they do.

"The district has a lot of potential in economic values; there is therefore a need to use the prevailing development opportunities as fast as possible,” she said.

Binagwaho appealed to potential investors to invest in Gicumbi.

"We have set up the Gicumbi Investment Group where all investors will be briefed on the beauty of the district,” Binagwaho disclosed.

It emerged that authorities are currently compiling videos on the beautiful sceneries of the district to showcase its tourism potential.

At the same meeting, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Ernest Ruzindaza, urged the district to ensure improved food production by sensitising residents on modern farming.

The district selected potatoes, wheat, beans and maize as its specialised crops of choice.
