Sports Minister Protais Mitali says
- Ntare Gerald’s resignation letter was unprofessional
- An Audit team will investigate mismanagement of funds
- A new committee will take over until elections are held
EMBATTLED Supt. Gerald Ntare on Tuesday evening finally resigned from his position as the president of the national athletics governing body, RAF.
In a one paragraph letter seen by Times Sport, Ntare attributed his resignation to personal reasons and this paper’s calls to his mobile telephone yesterday to elaborate more on his resignation went un answered.
However his 1st vice president Louis Rurangirwa said there was no reason to resign and added that the federation will organize elections soon.
"I also don’t know why he (Supt Ntare) resigned but there is no reason for me to quit. We are going to organize elections to fill all the vacant positions,” Rurangirwa told this paper by phone yesterday.
The vacant positions are the posts of president, secretary general, treasurer and 2nd vice president.
However, Sports Minister Protais Mitali told Times Sports that it is only the interim committee led by Alexander Kayitsinga which was set up by athletics federation General Assembly that will run the federation affairs until new officials are elected.
Calling Ntare’s resignation letter unprofessional, Mitali also said an Audit team will investigate mismanagement of funds in the body.
"First of all his resignation letter was unprofessional. I have told him to hand over office within two days and all his subordinates should vacant their positions.
An Audit team will investigate the mismanagement of funds and advise us on what to do. We are closely following this matter,” Mitali said.
