Rwanda will, this week, host members of the Global Broadband Commission for Digital Development. 

The commission, which is co-chaired by President Paul Kagame and Mexican Billionaire, Carlos Slim, seeks to lay strategies for accelerated deployment and access to broadband technology globally.

Rwanda hosts the commission at a time when the country has made tremendous progress in setting up ICT infrastructure. The country has also laid out clear ICT polices which are driving national growth and development.

The outcome of the two-day meeting  will help stimulate the growth and development across various developing countries.

Rwanda in particular should be able to reap benefits from this high profile conference, which will be attended by some of the world's top leaders in government, industry and the United Nations.

The Government has rolled out the national fibre optic backbone with various institutions taking advantage of the infrastructure to deliver better services.

However, the greatest challenge is to make sure that the ordinary citizen’s welfare is enhanced through adopting technology in their lives.

The Broadband Commission meeting will offer the opportunity to share experiences and through such high level events that have are characterized by political will, the benefits of the technologies can be exploited, for the betterment of society.
