NGOMA – The government plans to give veterinary officers across the country motorcycles to facilitate their work.

This was disclosed by Martin Shem Ndabikunze, the Director
General of the Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB), while addressing hundreds of local leaders in Ngoma District.

Ndabikunze told The New Times yesterday that the plans were at an advanced stage.

He noted that the motorcycles would improve the mobility of the officers and boost livestock farming.

"We are aware of the need for transport, especially in rural areas. The money is available and we are only waiting for the procurement procedures. There shouldn’t be other excuses for not delivering services to farmers,” he said.

Ndabikunze further urged all stakeholders to embrace the crop intensification program.

He said that over 100 technicians will be dispatched to every district to help boost crop and animal production, adding that the season A should yield a surplus harvest for external markets.

"We want to be practical and we shall be tough on agriculture officers and vets that don’t deliver,” Ndabikunze warned.

Isiah Iryivuye, a cell leader in Remera Sector of Ngoma District, said that the provision of motorcycles was timely.
