Rwandan boxers have been reduced to onlookers after losing their preliminary round bouts in the boxing competition in the All Africa Games in Maputo. France-based Jean Morris Bikorimana was the first boxer to face the exit chamber after a 2-18 points’ loss to Nigeria’s Akanji Muyideen in the middle weight category (75kg). Bikorimana has been training in France since May under the Olympic solidarity sponsorship which is given to athletes from developing nations to help them realize their chances of attaining minimum qualifications for Olympic Games.

Another middle weight fighter Vincent Nsengiyumva followed Bikorimana out of the competition with another disappointing defeat against Nigerian’s Ganiyu Muyideen.
Feather-weight (66kg) boxer Salim Kwizera suffered a second round technical knockout at the hands of Mauritius’ Bruno Julio.
Light weight (64kg) boxer Theoneste Gakunzi was set for his preliminary round battle last evening, however, that fight was to start by press time.
