Rulindo District has vowed to focus on improving the welfare of its residents this year.

The pledge was made Sunday by the Mayor, Justus Kangwagye, during the district’s Open Day, when, amid jubilations, they presented to the residents the performance contract award that the district won recently.

Kangwagye said the district would assess the progress made by residents as well as the challenges.
 
The district has a population of over 260,000.

"We want to take note of the challenges in each and every home and discuss how to make things better,” said Kangwagye.

The Mayor further noted that the assessment identify residents who do not provide for their families.

"This will help us know how we can help improve the standard of living of each resident,” he added.

Kangwagye attributed the district’s success to hard work and unity among the residents and the district staff.

Speaking at the event, MP Evariste Kalisa, urged the district to work harder to maintain the top spot by achieving the targets set out in the performance contracts.

Rulindo District emerged the best in implementing last year’s performance contracts.

"All the other districts are also yearning to get this award, so, don’t let it out of your grasp, keep up the spirit,” Kalisa said, noting that the district’s innovations had paid off.

Some of the residents who spoke to The New Times, hailed the district officials for the development initiatives that have seen their welfare improve.
