The Governor of Northern Province, Aime Bosenibamwe, has called on local leaders in Rulindo District to serve the nation with patriotism.
The Governor made the remarks while addressing a security meeting which brought together all local leaders in the district.
"In order for your efforts to register social-economic development, you need to first develop love and passion for the country and work as a team,” he said.
Responding to demands for salaries from local leaders, Bosenibamwe told them not to consider money as the first priority, but instead strive for the country’s social and economic development.
He explained the government cannot afford to pay salaries to all village leaders in the country. He, however, promised that the district could afford to facilitate their communication needs.
The Governor advised the local leaders to maintain the hard work that earned them the top position in this year’s performance contracts commonly known as Imihigo.
Rulindo District came top after scoring over 90 percent, followed by Nyamasheke and Kicukiro districts in latest performance contracts’ assessment.
Rulindo Mayor, Justus Kangwagye, later dedicated the award to local leaders.
Security officials at the meeting appealed to local leaders to address the issue of rampant cases of domestic violence and smuggling of illicit local brew, commonly known as "Kanyanga”, in the province.
