AS Amavubi team suffered a 0-5 demolition by Elephants, their sisters of the women basketball team made amends with a narrow 46-44 win over Cote d’Ivoire in the second game of the basketball competition in the All Africa Games played yesterday in Maputo.
Assistant coach Jean Claude Rutabayire told Times Sport on phone from Maputo, "Our performance against Cote d’Iviore was not as good as the one in our first game but we managed to win.
"I hope we will play better in tomorrow’s (today) against Angola though it is going to be a very challenging test for us,” noted Rutabayire.
In the opening game, Rwanda beat Cameroon 60-56 with Justin Musabe and Anderson Kiyala jointly amassing 15 points each. Honore Ayebare also helped Rwanda to victory by scoring 12 points to take home vital points for Rwanda.
Rwanda is drawn against Cameroon, Angola, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali and Senegal face Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday.
The other group is comprised of Mozambique, Zimbabwe, DR Congo, Kenya, Algeria and Nigeria.
In Maputo, Rwanda sent 85 athletes competing in tennis, boxing, cycling, men’s basketball, swimming, sport for disabled, athletics, Taekwondo, boxing, beach volleyball and men’s volleyball respectively.
