Rwiminazi Primary school in Rweru Sector, Bugesera district, Thursday received desks worth Rwf 2 million from the Rwanda Red Cross (RRC).

During the ceremony to hand over the furniture, excited pupils told The New Times that the donation would improve their learning environment.

"It has been difficult for some of us to write since we were squeezed that at least five or six pupils could use one desk,” Rachel Umulisa, 10, a Primary Three pupil said.

She explained that with the donation, the scramble for seats in classes will be limited.

The school headmistress, Josianne Nyirantore, welcomed RRC`s initiative, saying it greatly contributes to the school’s development that has been gradual since it opened its doors in 1998.

"We are fortunate that we have got these desks. Previously, we did not have enough for all the classrooms,” Nyirantore said.

The Executive Secretary of the Sector, Célestin Karinganire, commended RRC`s continued support to the district.

"We recognise your commitment in promoting people`s welfare, particularly here in Bugesera where you constructed 100 houses for orphans and other vulnerable children,” Karinganire said.

RRC`s Secretary General, Apollinaire Karamaga, attributed the organisation’s actions to its volunteers, urging Rwandans to adopt the culture of voluntary work to serve others.
