RWANDA women basketball team registered a perfect start to this year’s All Africa Games winning the opening game against Cameroon yesterday in Maputo, Mozambique.
Rwanda beat Cameroon 60-56 with Justine Musabe and Anderson Kiyala jointly amassing 15 points each. Captain Honore Ayebare also helped herself to 12 points to take help snatch vital points for the ladies hoops.
Rwanda which was placed in a fair draw against Cameroon, Angola, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali and Senegal face Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday.
The other group is composed of Mozambique, Zimbabwe, DR Congo, Kenya, Algeria and Nigeria.
The women’s volleyball team was also in action against Cameroon on the first of the 21st edition of the African Games, however, by press time, the results were not yet known.
In Maputo, Rwanda have sent representatives to compete in tennis, boxing, cycling, men’s basketball, swimming, sport for disabled, athletics, Taekwondo, boxing, beach volleyball and men’s volleyball respectively.
Rwanda will be vying for a medal after the 1987 Games edition were retired runner Maricienne Mukamurenzi won a silver medal in the 10.000m race.
