NORTHERN PROVINCE

GICUMBIThe Mayor of Gicumbi district, Bonane Nyangezi, has advised residents to adopt family planning methods to avoid a population explosion.

He was speaking last week during a one-week seminar on family planning. The event was organised by Rwanda Episcopal Church [EER]

"Family planning helps the Government to plan for all citizens," said Nyangezi. He explained that family planning was a global campaign to create a balance between the population and the economic resources and for people to have access to basic needs like shelter, education, food and health facilities..

"It is a sin to produce many children whom you cannot feed or send to school. By doing so, you are punishing these children which is a violation of their human rights," added Nyangezi.

Participants at the seminar were drawn from 15 Sectors across Gicumbi. Also in attendance are PSI (Population Service International) representatives, health workers and religious leaders.
