Taxi-motos are arguably the most popular means of public transport in the city center as well as other parts of the country.

Among the challenges this mode of transport presented was the sharing of helmets which was not only uncomfortable but put passengers at risk of contracting disease.

Beginning this week, the challenge has been solved with the introduction of the Smart Cover Head, a tissue that is placed underneath the helmet to protect the user from catching disease, especially skin diseases that spread through contact with the sweat of an infected person.

The introduction of the tissue is, indeed, a huge relief to many.

There are some who put their lives at risk, opting to ride on motorcycles without helmets just because they were dirty and others who opted for less convenient means of transport for fear of being exposed to diseases.

Taxi-motos, without doubt, play an essential part in providing public transportation. However, they have been associated with crime, accidents and poor hygiene.

Police, in close collaboration with local leaders and the population should work constantly to ensure that taxi-moto operations are legal and smooth.

The introduction of the Smart Cover Head is one commendable initiative that will help boost their operations.
