GICUMBI - Gicumbi residents have appealed to the district to make infrastructure development a priority in the next phase of the implementation of performance contracts.

They made the appeal on Monday during the District Open Day, where officials briefed the community on the various programs embedded in the performance contracts commonly known as Imihigo.

 "We want more roads and electricity to ease business. There are so many sectors that still lack this kind of infrastructure, yet they are the pillars of development,” they said.

The District Mayor, Bonane Nyangezi, advised residents to value time and accord more hours to work.

"If we want to see the district develop rapidly, it is high time we worked tirelessly and stopped being lazy. You know time is money,” the Mayor said.

The call follows the district’s dismal performance in the recently announced performance evaluation where Gicumbi was ranked 27th out of 30 districts countrywide.

Nyangezi acknowledged last year’s poor performance, attributing it to misunderstandings among some district officials. He added that the district is resolving the problem.

The Mayor called on the local community to unite and work in the interest of developing the district.
