I am greatly disappointed with of the authorities at Nyarugenge District and Kigali City Council in general.

Over the years, permanent traders who operate in Nyabugogo market and pay monthly taxes and rent have complained to relevant authorities, demanding that hawkers be relocated to other areas but in vain.

Hawkers don’t pay rent and tax like legitimate traders owning permanent shops. Yet, we share the same clients! Hawkers hijack all clients before they enter our shops. We have petitioned Nyarugenge District over the matter but no action has been taken.

Authorities always tell us that they would relocate hawkers "soon”. It has become a song. Very soon, we shall join the hawkers and trade our merchandise in the open.

Actually, many of our colleagues have started it. Recently, I saw many hawkers standing infront of several shops near the Union Trade Centre, causing a commotion and getting hold of  every client attempting to enter the shops.

Something must be done now. Words or endless promises from the authorities without action will not help us.
