World Vision Rwanda is mobilising resources to build a Rwf 700 million health facility in Kibilizi Sector, Nyamagabe District.

The health centre that is expected to serve over 20,000 residents, will be the second to be set up by the faith-based NGO, in the district following another in Uwinkingi Sector.

Some of the residents who spoke to The New Times said the health facility would relieve them from moving long distances to obtain medical services.

"We have to travel over 12 kilometres to get to Mbuga Health Centre,” said Alice Nyirawagaga, a resident of Kibilizi.

The centre will provide most health services, including maternity services.

Nyamagabe District Mayor, Philbert Mugisha, appreciated the NGO`s commitment to improve the lives of rural residents.

"World Vision has actively contributed to the 9-Year Basic Education Program by building schools, they have donated cows to the poor as well as built houses in the fight to eradicate Nyakatsi,” Mugisha said.

He promised that the district would continue to work with the NGO and other development partners to develop the district.

The NGO`s South Zonal Manager, Christine Mukamugema, said the health facility would be constructed in two phases.

"The first phase will be complete by January next year and we want the facility to be operational by September,” Mukamugema said.

The centre will also have a nutritional centre to be funded by PAGOR, a local NGO, at the cost of Rwf 50 million.
