THE Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture needs Rwf370m for next month’s All Africa Games in Maputo-Mozambique. The budget will be full covered by the government.

According to Guillaume Nzabonimana, an official in the ministry, the money is supposed to cover air tickets for participants, training camps, subsistence allowances, participation fees and the teams’ kit.

Already the teams have been in residential training for nearly two weeks at La Palace Nyandungu.

Rwanda will be represented in 10 disciplines which include Basket ball, Volleyball, Beach volleyball, Athletics, Boxing, Tennis, Karate, Swimming, Cycling, Tae-kwon-do and sport for the disabled.

According to Gaspard Kajiuka, the manager for the travelling delegation said, "It is very hard to say we will pick up a specific number of medals, but in games like basketball and volleyball, we expect good performances.”

The teams will leave in phases. The first being the volleyball team that departs on Saturday. The Contingent has 85 athletes and 25 officials.

Rwanda last won a medal in the 1987 Games which were held in Kenya when Maricienne Mukamurenzi won a silver medal in the 10.000m race.
