She played her first professional event in 1995, at the age of 13.

Serena has also famously played her sister Venus in the common rivalry, winning 13 of the 23 Grand Slam singles they have met (including the last 4 in a row).

She is also a popular fashion icon.

She formerly had a special line with Puma and currently has one with Nike. She was also famous for her special wear on court.

Off-court, the athlete is closely attached to entertainment voicing, several TV animation shows and featuring in episodes like "Crouching Mother, Hidden Father”.

She uses part of her million dollar wealth to contribute to Charity projects.  In 2008, Serena helped fund the construction of Serena Williams Secondary School in Kenya. She also received a Celebrity Role Model Award for her work in breast cancer.

Williams has also been involved in a number of clinics at schools and community centers, particularly those which have programs focusing on at-risk youths.

She was part of ATP and WTA stars that organized a charity event in which all proceeds went to the Haiti earthquake victims.
