KIGALI - Auditors and accountants in Rwanda have been urged to start using recent accounting software to facilitate their duties.

"The software based solutions are ideal for financial professionals as it is known to ease the workload for practitioners in the business,” said Andre Langeveld, from CaseWare Africa, a South African-based accounting solutions firm.

Langeveld, who was in Rwanda last week, trained 20 auditors from GPO Partners Rwanda, which is one of pioneer local firms that has embraced the use of auditing software leading to full paperless processes.

"The software basically offers compliance. Complying in each and every standard is a very challenging task. We are driving at a paperless audit while most companies are still using a lot of paper which is expensive and not good for the environment,” Langeveld said.

He noted that accountants can carry out paperless audits and meet their deadlines, revealing that this type of audit saves time, money and paper, while enhancing compliance with both accounting and auditing standards.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda (ICPAR), Evans Mulera, said that such training programs are crucial as local firms gear up to meet international accounting standards.
