AMAVUBI Stars have lined up two friendly matches against Primus national league sides SC Kiyovu and La Jeunesse as part of their preparations for next month’s 2012 Nations’ Cup qualifier against Cote d’Ivoire in Kigali.

Head coach Sellas Tetteh told Times Sport yesterday that the friendly matches are aimed at putting his players in the right frame physically and mentally.

"We have been training together for the past three weeks and I hope that these [friendly] matches will raise their competitiveness levels before facing Cote d’Ivoire,” said the Ghanaian.

Amavubi play Kiyovu today and La Jeunesse on Thursday at 8am. Both matches will be played at then Kigali regional stadium in Nyamirambo.

Cote d’Ivoire’s Elephants are set to jet in Kigali on September 1 on a direct KLM flight from Amsterdam, Holland, were they’re scheduled to set up a training camp, starting August 29.

Following the arrivals of Andrew Buteera and Charles Mwesigye Tibingana, other professional players; Tanzania duo of skipper Haruna Niyonzima and Patrick Mafisango, AS Vita pair of Kalisa Mao and Labama Bokota and France’s AS Cannes striker Elias Uzamukunda are expected in the country on August 29.

APR’s Eric Gasana (Mbuyu Twite) has until now, snubbed the national team call the numerous efforts by the relevant authorities to send him the air ticket in Kinshasa.

The Wasp, who lost 3-0 to Cote d’Ivoire during the first leg played in Abidjan, will be trying to sting the Elephants out of their senses at home. Rwanda has lost three of their four qualification matches.

The Elephants lead group H with 12 points and have already qualified for Equatorial Guinea/Gabon finals while Benin and Burundi are tied on four points although the West Africans enjoy a superior goal difference. Rwanda has three points.
