Rwanda participated in the 3rd Africa Youth and Good Governance Conference in Accra, Ghana for the first time. The conference took place from the 10th to 13th, August, 2011. I represented Rwanda at the AYG conference.

The gathering was one of the initiatives around the world that was designed to coincide with the International Year of the Youth on 12th, August, 2011.

This pioneering event brought together 250 young people in governance, academia, corporate institutions, Non Governmental Organizations, international development organizations, students and youth groups from Africa and observers from other parts of the world to deliberate on the difference that young people can make if empowered to take their rightful place in Africa’s development.

The AYG Conference was designed to boost youth involvement in governance throughout Africa. The Conference pivoted on youth friendly conferencing that combines detailed presentation, problem solving and highly interactive sessions that would equip participants with new skills to contribute to Africa’s development.

Rwanda was awarded a certificate for being a role model in youth empowerment on the African continent which I received on behalf of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture.

Special recognition was given to Rwanda’s Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture for its efforts in fighting poverty among youth and its strategy of mainstreaming young people into leadership positions.
