A local author, Aime Ncungure, has filed a case against Fountain Publishers for allegedly forging documents and copyright infringement.

Ncungure claims that he authored a book titled ‘History and Citizenship’ that is currently being used in schools. He also says that he won a writing contest that was called by Rwanda Education Board (REB), back in 2015.

Later on, Ncungure entered into an agreement to have his book published by Fountain Publishers.

According to his lawyer, Jotham Nkinzingabo the contract was supposed to end after five years and Ncungure was to get 10 per cent of the royalties for each copy sold.

However, since that period, Ncungure didn't get the agreed amount for his work and he now claims stands over Rwf 1billion from Fountain Publishers

The Fountain publishers confirmed to The New Times that they are aware of that court case but they can’t talk about it before the hearing.

Nyarugenge Intermediate Court is set to start hearing the case between the author and the publishing house on March 22

Nkinzingabo pointed out that they are suing the publisher for copyright infringement after they sold the copyright of Ncungure without his consent among others.

Nkinzingabo also alleged that the publisher forged documents showing that Ncungure received 10 per cent as part of the royalty fee.
