NYAGATARE- A 28-year-old man is detained at Matimba police station in Nyagatare District in connection with counterfeiting money.

According to Police, the suspect, only identified as Nsengiyumva, was arrested on Sunday afternoon in Nyamiyonga Cell in Musheri Sector.

"We arrested him after a tip-off from area residents. At the time of arrest, he was found in possession of a machine used to make fake money,” a police official at Matimba police station told The New Times on Monday.

According to the police, a number of suspects believed to be Nsengiyumva’s accomplices are on the run.

"The information we have is that the suspect has a chain of accomplices. We are working tirelessly to track them.”

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a resident of Matimba sector said that some people in the area cross the border to Uganda to carry out such activities.

"This serves to alert police that there many young men in the area who cross the border to carry out counterfeit activities with Ugandans across the border,” he said.
