RWANDA finished their group D campaign on a high after yesterday’s 87-67 win over Togo. It was a timely result for Vaceslav Kavedzija’s team following back to back defeats against Central African Republic (CAR) 61-89 and Tunisia 37-69 at the on-going FIBA Africa Championship in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
Rwanda won the first three quarters 27-8, 24-10, 21-23 before throwing away the last quarter 15-26.
Kenneth Gasana led the team’s scoring charts with 19 points and nine assists; Robert Thompson had 18 points while Cameron Bradley weighed in with 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Rwanda will now play Ivory Coast in the knock out stage on Wednesday.
The West Africans finished second in Group C after a run of two defeats and one victory.
Elsewhere, Papa Diaga Dia was at his best as he led Senegal to a 92-54 victory over Chad in group-B.
The 2.12m centre scored a game high 31 points top of his 10 rebounds and three assists.
Mouhammad Faye and Mohamet Diop added 16 and 11 points respectively.
Senegal will now entertain hosts Madagascar this afternoon.
The tournament winner automatically qualifies for next year’s London Olympic Games.
