Works to install traffic lights on busy junctions in Kigali city have kicked off.

The junctions include, Sopetrad, Muhima-Kinamba, Peyage and Kimihurura commonly known as ‘Kabindi’.

Road users who spoke to The New Times said the traffic lights will help bring order.

"It has been so hard for us to operate from here because we have no directives to follow as every one uses the road how they want,” said Eric Kamari, a motorcyclist who frequents the Muhima-Kinamba junction, commonly known as Yamaha.
He said the junction is one of the most dangerous and the traffic lights will reduce on the accidents.

A pedestrian, Alice Uwamahoro, said that although the junction has zebra crossings, it is hard for people to cross.

"Traffic lights will help give each of us including drivers, directives that will be respectful to every road user,” Uwamahoro said.

Kigali City Council’s Director of Media and Communication, Bruno Rangira, confirmed that the traffic lights will be up and running by the end of this month.
