Carbon dioxide balance (CO2 balance) under the Carbon Management Company, an environment protection organization, promises to reduce carbon emission by 70 percent.
Under its theme ‘stove builder’ the company makes free stoves that are environment friendly to distribute to rural households to replace the traditional three stones that discharge carbon.
"For starters we are launching in Rubavu and Musanze districts, but by March next year, we want to have 300,000 clay stoves in the country,” said Andrew Ochama, the coordinator of the project in Uganda and Rwanda.
The project operates in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Ghana.
"The stoves reduce the usage of firewood by 70 per cent as well as emitting carbon dioxide which affects climate change greatly,” added Ochama.
CO2 balance have successfully implemented carbon management solutions in large companies such as Toshiba UK, Toshiba Europe and Gaz de France among others.
Jerome Byukusenge, the district Director of Planning, said that CO2 balance project is a good initiative which cooks faster with less firewood hence protecting the environment.
"Besides protecting the environment, the project will help the citizens save a lot of money which was spent on charcoal and firewood,” added Byukusenge.
