Chris Martin is and English singer-songwriter, and the lead vocalist, pianist and rhythm guitarist of the band Coldplay.

Martin was born in England on 2 March 1977 the eldest of five children.

He formed his first band "The Rocking Honkies” in his preparatory school, along with two friends. Their debut performance was met by boos from the crowd, though.

He met his future Coldplay manager Phil Harvey and band-mates, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Guy Berryman at University.

The band has had internationally recognized fame and success since their debut album, "Parachutes”, in 2000 releasing several albums.

Though he is a rock-devotee, Martin's fascination with hip hop was shown in mid-2006 when he collaborated with rapper Jay-Z for the rapper's comeback album Kingdom Come.

He has also worked with Dr Dre, Kanye West, Swizz Beatz and a feature with Snoop Dogg.

The singer met American actress Gwyneth Paltrow in 2002 backstage at a Coldplay gig. The couple married a year later on 5 December 2003.

Martin is does not smoke or drink alcohol.
